 Double desensitizing action: neural action of potassium nitrate and occlusion of the dentin tubules of sodium fluoride. Potassium nitrate is an extremely effective agent in the treatment of hyperesthetic dentin, scientifically proven by various authors. Its action is based on the fact that the increase in the concentration of extracellular potassium depolarizes the membranes of the nerve fibers, blocking the passage of the stimulus and reducing hypersensitivity.
